General information about SFI

Sfi – Swedish tuition for immigrants. sfi is an education to provide adult immigrants with a basic knowledge of the Swedish language.

Those who have a mother tongue other than Swedish are to be able to learn and develop Swedish as a working second language in sfi.

After completing the education, participants are to be able to communicate in Swedish, both verbally and in the written word, in different situations in everyday, social and working life.

Those who need tuition in basic reading and writing skills can also receive this at sfi.

Three lines of study and four modules

  • Sfi 1 (possibility to read the courses A, B, C, D) is intended for those who have received formal education in their home country only for a short period or not at all.
  • Sfi 2 (possibility to read the courses courses B, C and D) is intended for those who have received formal education for about 7-11 years.
  • Sfi 3 (includes the courses C and D) is intended for those who have received formal education for 12 years or more. The goal is to get through course D.

National final test in sfi

Each line of study finishes with a national final test. The Swedish National Agency for Education is responsible for producing the final test for courses B, C and D.
