Swedish for Teachers

If you hold a teaching degree from your home country, and/or have worked as a teacher you can apply to study Swedish for teachers, sfp.

Swedish for teachers, sfp, is an education suitable for those who currently hold a teaching degree, a preschool teaching degree or a recognised academic qualification in a subject taught in Swedish schools, and/or have worked as a teacher.

The course is focused on your profession and a first step towards applying for a teacher certification in Sweden, from the Swedish National Agency for Education (Skolverket).

About the course

This is a full-time course with weekday (Monday-Friday) classes at the school in Uppsala. The course is not offered as a distance course.

The course is free of charge.

Before you apply for sfp you need to be registered on the standard course of Swedish for immigrants, sfi.

You must reside in Uppsala or a municipality nearby.

This is not a professional qualification. You will mainly be studying Swedish, with an orientation course about the Swedish school system and professions.

You can apply for SFP if you hold a teaching degree, a preschool teaching degree or a recognised academic qualification in a subject taught in Swedish schools, and/or have worked as a teacher for children under the age of 18. 

You need to have your foreign qualifications evaluated by the Swedish Council for Higher Education.

Note: Please be advised that meeting the requirements does not guarantee admission to SFP.  

After this course you will have the requested level of Swedish (Svenska som andraspråk 3) to apply for the teacher certification (lärarlegitimation) from Skolverket according to their regulations.
